Six months later the magazine folded, at a staggering $47 million loss. The author, who had been a senior editor on TV-Cable Week's staff, spent the following two years interviewing key players in the venture, and has produced this account of its rise and fall. The original concept, Byron reports, grew out of Time's felt need for control in the cable industry and credibility on Wall Street. When TV-Cable Week failed to attract distributors, and its losses surpassed projections, Time's corporate leaders abandoned the project they had not market tested. Byron tells an engrossing and plausible behind-the-scenes tale of heroes, villains, secret agendas and suppressed memos, and concludes that when corporate decision makers become preoccupied with profits in disregard of their customers, the result is disaster. David F. Bjorklund is Professor of Psychology at Florida Atlantic University, where he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in developmental psychology since 1976. He received a B.A. degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts in 1971, an M.A. degree in psychology from the University of Dayton in 1973, and a Ph.D. degree in developmental psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1976. He has received numerous teaching and research awards from Florida Atlantic University, and is the recipient of an Alexander von Humboldt Research Award. He has co-authored several books. Bjorklund has served as Associate Editor of CHILD DEVELOPMENT, published by the Society for Research in Child Development, has served on the editorial boards of DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY, DEVELOPMENTAL REVIEW, COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY REVIEW, JOURNAL OF COMPARATIVE PSYCHOLOGY, JOURNAL OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT, JOURNAL OF EXPERIMENTAL CHILD PSYCHOLOGY, and SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY QUARTERLY, and has served as a contributing editor to PARENTS MAGAZINE. He has published more than 100 scholarly articles on various topics relating to child development and has received financial support for his research from the National Science Foundation, the Spencer Foundation, and the German Research Foundation. I had to buy this book for my Intro to Costume Design and I am so glad I did. It goes over EVERYTHING that you need to do when designing. It is a step by step with instructions. It has a lot of information on how to research a play. What to look for. And then goes into how to create/design for a character. Lastly it shows you how to develop a costume parade.

Probably the best book for costume design students on the market. I've used it for years.

I am currently using this for a costume design course in college, and it has been very useful and thorough. The only drawback is that it was published in the early 1990's, so it is a bit out dated. Still, a lot of great advice.

Cognitive enhancement offers a potential benefit to a variety of populations:  neurologic and psychiatric disorders are associated with cognitive impairment, a growing population suffers from mild aging-related cognitive impairment, and those with normal functioning may desire improvement of intellectual performance. While there has been a substantial increase in research tools allowing for multiple-level analysis of cognition, building our knowledge of the molecular/cellular basis of cognitive function and offering the possibility technological development to enhance cognition, there is currently a gap in coverage in the research market. This volume addresses that gap, gathering multidisciplinary knowledge and providing tools for understanding the basics of cognitive enhancement and assistance in designing procedures/pharmacological approaches to further the use of novel cognitive enhancers. Separate sections are presented on enhancement drugs, environmental conditions and genetic factors, as well as on enhancement with regard to specific diseases. About the Author
Shira Knafo is the head of the Molecular Cognition Laboratory and an Ikerbasque research professor at The University of the Basque Country (Biophysics Unit, Leioa). Her particular interests are in studying the molecular and synaptic mechanisms underlying learning and memory processes, cognitive malfunction and cognitive enhancement. Her experience in different scientific disciplines (medicine, animal behaviour, electrophysiology, molecular biology, morphology and imaging) allows her to adopt a multidisciplinary approach that is considered a great asset in modern neuroscience research. In 2012, she was awarded the Sieratzki Prize for Advances in Neuroscience (Tel-Aviv University) for her contributions in the field of cognitive neuroscience. In the same year, the Spanish National Research Council acknowledged her achievements in its annual tribute to its scientists. In 2013, the Spanish Ministry of Science awarded her an I3 certificate of excellence.

Associate Professor, Department of Psychopharmacology at the Universidad de Educación a Distancia in Spain and is Director of the Lab for Neurobiology of Stress and Neurodegenerative Diseases. He has authored two books on psychopharmacology and memory work. He co-chaired the “Cognitive Enhancement in Health and Disease” symposium at the 2012 Federation for European Neuroscience annual meeting.
